About Us

About Us

The Lions motto is:

We Serve

And its mission statement reads:

To create and foster a spirit of understanding among all people for humanitarian needs by providing voluntary services through community involvement as well as international co-operation.

Our aim is to help the less fortunate in our society with our activities concentrating on the needs of the local community. We raise money for local, national and international projects and participate in service activities for all age groups.

In addition to assisting others we organise various social events for our members and have fun.

Kendal & District Lions

Kendal & District Lions Club is a small group of local men and women with a wide range of ages from 20s to 80s. It is a friendly club with a welcoming atmosphere. We meet on the third Monday each month at Kendal Golf Club, starting at 7.30pm. You are welcome to join us at one to find out more about what we do.

We are involved in a number of community activities around town, including:

  • Coffee Mornings in the Town Hall
  • our Charity Book Shop at Westmorland Shopping Centre
  • our famed and much loved tour of the town by Santa and his Sleigh for 16 evenings in December

All money collected from the public, whether from Santa around Town, or through coffee mornings, profits from the bookshop, or individual donations from the public or local businesses. This money is used exclusively for charitable works: grants to individuals in need or local community groups, disaster relief locally, nationally and internationally.

Examples of this are:

  • a grant towards the cost of a specialist wheelchair for a disabled individual
  • community groups including the Kings Food Bank, First Responders
  • a garden at Westmorland General Hospital in Kendal
  • Cumbria Blood Bikes
  • defibrillators in two schools
  • donations towards disaster relief whether local (the floods of December 2016), national (Grenfell Tower) or international (we are currently collection donations at our bookshop for the victims of Cyclone Idai).

If you are aware of any such need locally, then please get in touch with us.

The running of the club is funded entirely by club members themselves. In this way you can be confident that every penny you donate to Kendal & District Lions Club will go to good causes.
